Abstract：A native assessment of a large emotional film clips database –FilmStim was carried out using the self-reported emotional arousal scale, the differential emotions scale and the positive and negative affect schedule. The results showed: (i) All emotion film’s arousal level was significantly higher than neutral film clips; (ii) Film clips evoked differentiable positive and negative emotions; (iii) The film clips of sadness, fear, disgust and neutral emotions elicited target emotion successfully; the film clips of anger, tenderness and amusement not only the target emotions, but also other emotions of the same valence. In conclusion, these results suggest that (i) Neutral film clips can be used as a reliable control condition of other emotions. (ii) Except for anger, the negative film clips can effectively induce the target emotions. (iii) The positive film clips cannot effectively induce the target emotion, which may imply a big cultural difference between East and West.
