Abstract:Atypical gaze is one of the most distinctive characteristics of individuals with autismspectrum disorder(ASD). It appears from early on and is likely to relate to impairment in social communication and social interaction. This review focused on four topics concerning eye preference, gaze discrimination, gaze following and joint attention, which summarized the behavioral and brain-imaging research on gaze processing in patients with ASD. And this paper also made a discussion on the mechanisms underlying atypical gaze in ASD and the future prospect on this issue.
