Abstract:There is a metaphorical connection between moral concepts and color. Previous studies have only manipulated the color of the stimulus itself, and the effect of background color on moral judgment is still unclear. This study used the moral Stroop paradigm to explore the influence of background colors (black, white, red, green and blue) on the moral attribute judgment of words and pictures. The results showed:(1)When judging words, the moral Stroop effect was significantly larger in green and white background colors than in other background colors.(2)When judging pictures, the moral Stroop effect was significantly larger in green and white background colors than in red. These results extend previous research of moral metaphor. We discussed the mapping relationship of conceptual metaphor theory and provides some evidence for the appropriate use of colors in environmental design from the moral perspective.
