Abstract:Leader group prototypicality embodies the representative degree of leaders' beliefs, values, and norms in their group, which attracts increasing attention in organizational management. Previous research mainly explains the theoretical mechanism of leader group prototypicality from the social identity theory of leadership, uncertainty-identity theory, prototype preference effect, leadership category theory and conservation of resources theory. Based on these theoretical mechanisms, the authors summarize empirical research on the antecedents and consequences of leader group prototypicality across multi-levels and provide suggestions for future research on leader group prototypicality, with particular attention paid to antecedent-oriented research, integrative theoretical explanation, and indigenous research in the Chinese context.
