Abstract:Based on government publicity and education, the present study aimed to investigate the relationship between political participation and local government trust. A total of 2071 participants were investigated and analyzed in the present study. The results indicated that: (1) political participation significantly and positively predicted local government trust. (2) The relationship between political participation and local government trust was mediated by activity usefulness. (3) The frequency of publicity and education negatively moderated the relationship between political participation and activity usefulness and the mediating effect of activity usefulness, showing a diminishing marginal effect. These findings indicated that multi-methods to enhance the awareness of political participation and reasonably grasping the frequency of government publicity and education were optional strategies for promoting trust in local governments.
