Abstract:Target detection paradigm was explored in present study. Numbers range from 1 to 7 and letters range from A to G were served as experimental materials. Participants were asked to judge which character or color the presenting stimulus is to investigate influence on number’s and letter’s SNARC effect by present different character stimulus randomly and to investigate whether SNARC effect survived in different character materials. The results found that: (1) Number SNARC effect and letter SNARC effect all disappeared in the task of classifying character or color of numbers and letters. (2) Left hand was faster to letters than numbers, but right hand was faster to numbers than letters in the task of classifying character or color of numbers and letters. Left hand was faster to Chinese characters than numbers, on the contrary, right hand was faster to numbers than Chinese characters in the task of classifying character of numbers and Chinese characters. Stimulus-response compatibility effect appeared in different character stimulus. (3) We found stimulus-response compatibility effect which could be activated automatically and universality survived in processing of different stimulus’ classification. At the same time, it can restrain SNARC effect.
