Abstract:This study examined the mediating and moderating effects of personal growth initiative on the relationship between perceived discrimination and behavioral adaptation(prosocial behavior and delinquency) among left-behind children. After granted permission, 2436 left-behind children were requested to complete a series of self-report inventories to measure their perceived discrimination, prosocial behavior, delinquency and personal growth initiative. The result showed that:(1) perceived discrimination is negatively correlated with prosocial behavior, and positively correlated with delinquency. (2) PGI plays a mediating role in the prediction of perceived discrimination on behavioral adaptation. (3) PGI moderates the impacts of perceived discrimination on prosocial behavior and delinquency.
