Abstract:Depressive tendencies are a subclinical state of depression. Individuals with depressive tendencies have a consistent negative cognitive bias in processing emotional verbal information, which is manifested by longer attention to negative information, reduced allocation of attention to positive information, and easier interpretation of neutral information as negative information. The main reason for this is the impaired inhibitory control and emotion regulation of depressive tendency individuals. Future research should investigate the differences between processing emotional words, utterances, and discourse in depressively inclined individuals and improve their theoretical explanations to explore the neural mechanisms underlying the processing bias toward emotional verbal information in depressively inclined individuals.
