A Review of Package Design Simplicity under the Background of Minimalism in Consumption

Abstract:Package design simplicity is one of the most prominent trends of the last decade. Package design simplicity refers to a design style in which the number of visible objects, level of detail, dissimilarity between those objects, and the asymmetry and irregularity are low. The research on the influence of package design simplicity on consumer behavior is rich, but lack of systematic review and summary. To fill this gap, this review is structured around the definition of package design simplicity, summarizes the impacts of package design simplicity on consumer behavior, their underlying mechanism and the theory foundations, and highlights future research directions for advancing the field's understanding of package design simplicity.
