Volunteer’s Psychological Capital and Altruistic Behaviors: The Mediating Effect of Volunteer Role Identity

Abstract：To explore the relationship between psychological capital on altruistic behavior, and the mediating effect of volunteer role identity, the Psychological Capital Questionnaire, the Volunteer Role Identity Importance Scale and the Self-Sacrificial Altruism Scale were administered to 231 volunteers. The results showed that: (1) Volunteer’s psychological capital positively predicted volunteer role identity and altruistic behaviors；volunteer role identity positively predicted volunteer’s altruistic behaviors; (2) Volunteer role identity partially mediated the relationship between psychological capital and altruistic behaviors. Thus, psychological capital could affect altruistic behaviors directly, and also indirectly through volunteer role identity
